On Sept.

5, Classic Media will release a $22 two-disc set devoted to the mutant dinosaur that includes - for the first time in the USA - the complete, uncut 1954 Japanese film "Gojira" and the revised 1956 U.S.

version, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters."Both films have been remastered in high-definition and widescreen format.

"Gojira" includes 40 minutes that were edited from the U.S.

version.The studio plans to include extras such as a commentary about the historical significance of the film.

"It was really not meant to be a major monster movie.

It was more of a political movie with strong anti-nuclear messaging," Classic's Robert Mayo says.

On the same date, Classic will reissue six other remastered "Godzilla" films (both Japanese and U.S.

versions) in a $70 DVD set.
