Kaiser Daily Women's Health Policy Report Highlights Issues in ...... The state Budget Committee has approved allocating funds for breast cancer, cervical cancer and sexually transmitted infection screenings (Wagar, Kansas City Star, 3/16). Nebraska: The Legislature on Wednesday voted to approve a compromise provision, proposed by state Sen. Mike Foley (R), in the state budget that would increase funding for health care providers who treat low-income women for sexually transmitted infections and provide routine health screenings, the Associated Press reports (Bauer, Associated Press, 3/15). The budget provision allocates $750,000 annually for women's health programs (Reed/Stoddard, Omaha World-Herald, 3/16). The allocated funding - which is for 2007 and would have to be reapproved to continue the program in 2008 - cannot be used to fund abortion services or referrals but does fund clinics that offer family planning services, chlamydia testing and Pap tests (Associated Press, 3/15). According to the World-Herald, Gov.
