PanAfrica: Minister: Africa's Food Production Too Low

...The minister was speaking during the official opening of the roundtable discussions by co-ordinators of Agricultural Biotechnology Network in Africa (ABNETA) at a Nairobi hotel.Wekesa added that poor storage technology in the continent was eating up the little harvest, resulting in starvation.He said a policy that would enable the country's full participation in the rapidly evolving biotechnology revolution was underway.ABNETA co-ordinator, Prof Norah Olembo, said the network was designed to increase food security in Africa by receiving and circulating information on aspects of biotechnology for plant conservation and use.The Food and Agriculture Organisation, in collaboration with Africa Biotechnology stakeholders Forum (ABSF), had established an interactive web portal on biotechnology for east and central African countries, she said.

City's only infertility clinic to close in June

...David Olive said today."We have hundreds of active patients right now, currently going through treatments, and we were booked for new patient visits four months in advance, and booked for in vitro fertilization through May."Olive also noted that the three-month time period puts the clinic in a bind for developing any other local service options. "It takes a good nine months to set up an in vitro fertilization clinic with a laboratory.
